“reConstruct” curated by Yulia Topchiy at the Spring/Break Art Show NYC, 2016

In addition to installing a number of drawings and large drywall panels in the 2016 Spring/Break Art Show at the Moynihan Station, I staged a durational performance piece. For five days, from opening to closing, I drew on the drywall panels, completing one large partially finished 8' x 12' drawing.

I had my headphones on and worked quietly, exactly as I would in my studio. Some guests would tap me on the shoulder to chat but most would look at the art and/or watch me draw. I felt quite vulnerable but also comfortable and safe doing what I love in a welcoming blue room I was lucky enough to choose. I wanted to invite viewers to step into a warm space and brought in elements from my studio both for my benefit and theirs. The goal of the performance was to provide an intimate look into the art-making process, something that is often lost when looking at finished pieces in galleries and museums.
