Every now and again we find ourselves on an edge. I have a chronically ill sibling, for example, who often brings my family to the cusp of life only to walk us back, grateful and tired. I’ve found the edge to be an unsettling place where you must coexist with two or more realities. My recent drawings attempt to capture this world in-between. A place between adolescence, adulthood and motherhood; life and death; the real and the imagined; the past, present and future. This world is quieter than the one we know—quiet enough that we don’t need language to communicate. Here, it is best to sit patiently and wait. The figures in my drawings are doing just that—reactions must be saved for outcomes.
